We live in a mysterious and broken world. Our hearts seek answers. Our minds seek explanations. Our souls seek truth. We see this throughout our lives: as children we repeatedly ask “Why?” and as adults we continually strive for knowledge.
“An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.” —Proverbs 18:15
The problem is that our minds are limited and not all-powerful. By ourselves, we can find acceptable answers to only some of our questions. With age comes experience and knowledge, but we never seem to grow old enough to uncover every answer.
This is not the case with God.
“Great is our Lord, and abundant in strength; His understanding is infinite.” —Psalms 147:5
God’s knowledge is infinite. If wisdom comes with age, and our God has always existed, then imagine the depth of his wisdom.
Our minds are like tin cans, while God’s knowledge is as vast as an ocean. Can you imagine trying to fit an ocean into a tin can? It’s impossible. However, when we seek him through Scripture and prayer, our cans fill and overflow with his wisdom. God wants us to study his Word so that our minds can reach their greatest potential.
In Awaiting a Savior: The Gospel, the New Creation, and the End of Poverty, Aaron Armstrong reminds readers of this truth in regard to questions surrounding poverty. Armstrong provides a theological look at global poverty and guides readers through applying biblical truth to modern issues:
“We need to be able to think about and respond to these issues biblically. I hope to show that the best way to help the poor is to minister to them as the Church, in both word and deed, to the glory of God.” —Aaron Armstrong, Awaiting a Savior
Christ is the source of all knowledge. We can’t attain every answer by ourselves, but by seeking our great God, we can find answers in him on the cross.
